“ The great God who made the universe suddenly became the vulnerable baby of Bethlehem. The baby who cried. Don’t sing ‘Away In A Manger’, where you sing ‘no crying he makes’. That’s rubbish. Jesus cried like any healthy child. Here in the manger of Bethlehem was this child, this weak baby, who needed a mother’s milk and a father’s care and protection. This child is none other than God himself. And this is the wonder of Christmas: that God stepped down - he’s a down to earth God. He came down from heaven to meet with us. And he was in the form of a child - a baby.
