“ The great God who made the universe suddenly became the vulnerable baby of Bethlehem. The baby who cried. Don’t sing ‘Away In A Manger’, where you sing ‘no crying he makes’. That’s rubbish. Jesus cried like any healthy child. Here in the manger of Bethlehem was this child, this weak baby, who needed a mother’s milk and a father’s care and protection. This child is none other than God himself. And this is the wonder of Christmas: that God stepped down - he’s a down to earth God. He came down from heaven to meet with us. And he was in the form of a child - a baby.”
Megan and Alison. Getting baptised. Together. This Sunday. At FCC.
Be there.
And bring trumpets.
Congratulations you two :)
BAPTISM RISING…
MARCH 21 @ FCC!
See the work that goes on behind the scenes in this video of our very own Justin and Dom…
…and also, Eugene, ripping that bass apart.
For Jesus.
This week is the deadline to let us know if you want to get baptised!!!
Get dunked and rise again for/with Jesus. Yeah!
Next in our series of this year’s sermons…The Rev. Daniel Strydom’s first sermon of 2010:
“How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!”
It’s clear that God is challenging us right from the outset of this new year to think differently (repent) and to change our perspectives.
WOW.
It was incredible to be a part of FCC’s first sermon of 2010. An example of God speaking lovingly and truthfully to a community. Listen to it. (And reconsider that iPad/your life…)
These last 4 sermons, I believe, have historic value in the life of faith community church and are worth listening to more than the casual once. So we’re posting them up here for the record…and for the future.
We start with Richie’s sermon on the last Sunday of the year (27th Dec 2009):
Take Root, Bear Fruit: Isaiah 36-37
Enjoy…and be provoked.
If you wish to skip the Scripture Reading from our youth, fast forward to 10:50.
Eugene, Adam, Elon, Stefan, Amos and Sarah did an incredible and hilarious reading at the beginning. Thank you twe12th for being the community from which this sermon was born.
“How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”
Props to Danie for preaching such a grace-full, truth-full sermon. We need more of those.
For those of you who were there for Danie’s incredible sermon:
The question: “Will I allow God to change my perspective this year?”
An observation from a guest: the change on the floor was picked up.
(That guest was Phil by the way…)
Pray for Richie
I’m in charge of FCC’s last service of the year…entirely. Am preparing a sermon now. Would love it if you guys could pray for me this week. I want to say/do the right thing. Peace friends :)
P.S. Anyone up for an epic scripture reading? I need a narrator, a general, a king, and 3 kings assistants. It’s from Isaiah 36-37; same scripture as for Take Root :) Let me know in the comments if you’d like to read the word of the Lord…
I Like Big Bibles 4: The Fail Fall
I Like Big Bibles is the ongoing teaching series at FCC Youth Sunday. It began here.
So we’re up to the Seventh Day now, and everything is as it should be. Check out the last post for a scientific diagram of just how good everything was.
And then there is…The Fail Fall.
I Like Big Bibles 3: Shalom Isn’t Just Jewish
I Like Big Bibles is an FCC Youth Sunday series that began here.

First of all, let’s take a quick look at what the story has said so far.
Chapter 1: God is Good and he made a good world
Chapter 2: Humans bear God’s image and reflect it into the world.
And then there’s the Seventh Day right? The day when everything is perfect. The day when God sits back and enjoys his perfect creation.
This is how it was meant to be.
I Like Big Bibles 2: Humans!
I Like Big Bibles is the ongoing teaching series this year at FCC’s Sunday Youth.

“The Garden” by Dominic Kruger
HUMANS
So let’s talk more about these human-thingies.
“Let us make human beings in our image, in our likeness … ” (Gen 1:26)
Human beings, it seems, are given a special place in creation.
They are like God…yet they are also like the rest of creation, formed from earth and dust.
What does it mean to be made in God’s image, in his likeness?
HOSTILE TAKEOVER: THE TEENAGE YEARS
And the deed is done.
Our sermon. Oct 25 2009.
With love, Richie, Yohann, and Marcus.
Hostile Takeover: The Teenage Years
Hello everyone!
This Sunday we’ll be heading into the main service to hear a panel of three DISTINGUISHED guests:

Marcus Kroese - Youth Director, Island Evangelical Community Church
Marcus has been in Hong Kong for 4 years and is a youth pastor to teenagers aged 11-18. He originally came to Hong Kong as a singer for Disney but God has taken him in new directions since! Marcus believes that God has something special planned for the youth of Hong Kong and is excited to be a part of that. He has recently been seen causing trouble for God with a joint-youth event called RESOUND. A longtime friend of the twe12thFloor, Marcus joined us in blood sweat and toil during our 2008 [JOY]Rebuilt mission trip.
//

Yohann Rivaud - Outreach Coordinator, Gateway Camps
Yohann has been in Hong Kong for 3 years and has worked with thousands of teenagers through YWAM and Gateway Camps and Outreaches. He annually coordinates hundreds of missions experiences for teenagers from both local and international backgrounds. Yohann received a missionary’s calling at age 13 and has recently been seen conspiring for God’s Kingdom with an outdoor leadership training camp called Niko (which he previously ran in Hawaii for 6 years!) Yohann has been a guest at the twe12thFloor and in one visit made quite the impact. Partly because of his name, which gushes with power.

Richard Wu - Youth & Worship Director, Faith Community Church
Richard has been enjoying youth ministry since he was 15 years old…so much so that he went to college to study it! He has led youth groups of 100 and youth groups of 2, and has seen many of the teens under his care find their way into God’s calling for them. Richard believes that teenagers are an indispensable gift to the church, pushing us to be more true to our vocation through their questions, critique, and passion for God. He currently heads the twe12thFloor & Youth Sunday School. OH WAIT—YOU KNOW WHO HE IS!!
Peace you all,
Rich Wu.

PREFACE TO THE SERIES
At FCC’s Youth Sunday we just began a new series aimed to tackle…THE BIBLE. Yes. That big book over there.
A lot of us have been taught to see the Bible as a “manual” or a “textbook” with all the right answers for life. Certainly there are good, beautiful, and right answers in this massive book for many of our life’s conundrums. But is there more to the Bible than that? Is it more than a cosmic textbook sent down to us from on high?
In our series “I Like Big Bibles” we want to take a step back and look at the Bible less as a detailed textbook and more as a grand story—a story which God writes and into which he invites us to participate.
What, after all, is the Grand Story of the Bible?
Is it just that “Jesus came to die for our sins?”
Where did Jesus come from? Does it matter?
Where did this all begin? And where will it all end?
In heaven?
And what is heaven, anyways?
If all the bible can be summarized in a verse about Jesus dying for us, then why bother reading the rest of it?
Because there’s more to it than that.
So our journey will take us through the major chapters, turning points, plots, and themes of this gutsy, beautiful, shocking, human and divine gift of a book.
We begin with the first chapter of Genesis.
